Lynette Woods Obituary

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at White's Funeral and Cremation Services, 867 S. James Road, Columbus, OH 43227. Interment: Forestlawn Memorial Gardens.

Lynette Arleen Woods, the only daughter of the late Jesse Franklin Robinson, Sr. and Elizabeth Marcelline Richardson Robinson was born on February 20th, 1954. Lynette transitioned at St. Ann’s Hospital on March 12th, 2024.

Lynette was preceded in death by her half brother, Jesse Franklin Robinson, Jr. of Akron. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Silas Woods; her daughters, Lynsi Woods (Calvin Cleary), Whitni Woods, and Jessi (Ryan) Kuehne; and her grandson Liam Fells. She also leaves a host of loving siblings-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

A lifelong Columbus resident, Lynette has lived all over the city. As a child, she lived in Eastgate, before moving to Westerville as a teenager where she graduated from Westerville High School in 1972. Lynette attended Miami University, before transferring to Central State University to graduate in 1976 with a degree in education. She later went on to earn a Master’s of Education from Ohio University in 1980, and moved to Gahanna until she built her dream house in Pickerington.

After finishing college, Lynette began a 35-year long teaching career with Columbus City Schools. She taught at Avalon Elementary for 3 years before finding her second home at Dominion Middle School, where she taught 6th grade science, math, and health for 32 years. Despite taking a year off after retirement, they couldn’t quite keep her away, and she continued to work as a substitute teacher in Columbus City Schools until 2017.

Lynette rarely met a person she didn’t try to befriend. Shopping with her could be an ordeal, as you were sure to find her sitting somewhere in deep conversation with a store employee she had met a half-hour earlier. She had an incredible ability to forge connections with people, part of the reason so many former students remember her fondly. She had a relentless sweet tooth, often skipping dinner to get right to dessert, and it was impossible to keep her away from a celebration, be it a houseparty, a parade, or even fireworks.

With love: You’ll be missed, Lynette.
