Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 Joyce Ave., Columbus, OH 43219. Interment: Eastlawn Cemetery.

In Remembrance

Mabel M. Turns was born to Jessie and Mabel Jackson on May 11, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio.  She went to be with the Lord peacefully on June 26, 2026.

From her youth, Mabel was a follower of Jesus.  She served with faithfulness as a Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Teacher, choir member, Deaconess and pantry worker.  Mabel also loved everything family related and traveling.

Mabel graduated from Columbus East High School.  She briefly attended Franklin University but left to marry Theodore Turns and together they had three sons and one daughter.  When the three oldest left the family nest, Mabel set out to pursue her dream of teaching.  Her journey began at the Toddler Inn Day Care Center.  At age 44, she decided to attend the Columbus Technical Institute where she received an associate’s degree in social work.  After graduation, Mabel worked for five years at J.C. Penney as a claims adjuster for their car insurance division.  The division eventually was sold and she moved to her next opportunity.

At age 63, Mabel enrolled at Otterbein College where she earned her Educational Aide Certifications.  She used the certifications to tutor students in reading at McGuffey Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio.  On December 5, 2021, she joined New Jerusalem MBC where she was a Faithful Member… she loved Pastor & Sis. Martin and her church Family.

Mabel was preceded in death by parents, Jessie and Mabel Jackson; husband, Theodore Turns; sons, Rudolph and Sheldon Turns.  Left to cherish her memory, son Michael Turns; daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Puente; sister, Mary E. Jackson and many other relatives and friends.
