Mark Eric McIntyre came into the world with a spirit that would one day touch the lives of everyone fortunate to know him.
Born November 23, 1960, Mark began his life in Indianapolis, Indiana, as the son of Charles E. McIntyre and the late Clara Vera McElwain. He grew up alongside sisters Lynnda McIntyre, Shelley (McIntyre) Byrd and welcomed later younger brother Travis McIntyre, born to his father and Corliss “Jean” McIntyre.
Mark professed his faith in Christ at a young age at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. While living In Columbus, he worshiped as a devoted, faithful member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church since 1987.
As a child in Indianapolis, he attended Elder Watson Diggs School #42 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. He excelled in basketball and formed friendships along the way that would last a lifetime. During his teenage years, fellow athletes, coaches, and friends lovingly called him “Mac,” a nickname that followed him throughout life.
A standout athlete, Mark’s talents on the court were matched only by his generous spirit off the court. With natural charisma, genuine warmth, and lighthearted humor, Mark connected easily with anyone he met.
Among his lifelong friendships, he treasured bonds with Ricky Whitley and Keith Levon Hayes, who was his closest companion, and the best man at his wedding. Though Keith preceded him in death, his memory remained deeply rooted in Mark’s heart.
He remained committed to his hometown community and gave lovingly each year to the Indianapolis Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Celebration to provide meals for families in need.
Mark pursued higher education with determination and excellence. He attended the University of Cincinnati and Mount St. Joseph University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. He later received a Master of Business Administration from Ashland University, where he went on to serve proudly as a board member. He built a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years in business finance, always striving to grow and uplift those around him.
A proud and dedicated member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he held a special love for the brothers of the Alpha Alpha Chapter at the University of Cincinnati. In a final act of brotherhood, he gifted special pins to his fraternity brothers, a testament to his enduring loyalty, joy and deep fraternal pride.
While in college, Mark met the love of his life, Teresa Celeste Oglesby. Their union blossomed into 39 years of devoted marriage, marked by laughter, partnership and unwavering love. Above all else, Mark was a family man. His greatest joy and proudest accomplishment were as husband and father to Dr. Mark Eric McIntyre II, Taylor Alyse McIntyre, Esq. and Mason Elliott McIntyre.
From attending fencing matches, basketball games, martial arts and piano recitals to leading boy scouts troops, Mark celebrated every milestone with pride and delight. He watched each child grow and develop into accomplished adults, Most recently, he welcomed his children’s fiancées, Dr. Adetayo Abdulrazak and Taryn Taylor Brown, with an open heart, gratitude, and joy for their future unions.
In addition to Teresa and his children, Mark is survived by his father Charles McIntyre, stepmother Jean McIntyre and siblings Lynnda McIntyre, Shelley (McIntyre) Byrd and Travis McIntyre. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Clara McElwain and his niece Erika Thornton.
He leaves behind a loving circle of an aunt, cousins, extended family, fraternity brothers and countless friends who were touched by his kindness, his humor, and his steady, joyful presence. Mark loved celebrating life through gatherings, stories, laughter, and simply being surrounded by those he cherished.
Mark’s life was a testament to faith, integrity, devotion and love. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
