The Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, Marvine Della Germany, peacefully transitioned on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Marvine was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 15, 1932, to the union of Mark Hanna Germany and Della Ervin. Marvine was reared in Columbus, Ohio by her parents and extended family. Marvine was a devoted member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church until her illness precluded her from attending regular worship services. Marvine was also a member of Grace Chapter, No. 100 O.E.S.,PHA.

Marvine attended East High school and was employed throughout her years at CMACAO (Columbus Metropolitan Area Community Action Organization) and Western Electric. Marvine’s greatest joy was raising her children and grandchildren. This endeavor was a fulltime commitment and she never wavered from her task. She was stern but loving and fair and will forever be remembered as our rock. Marvine loved being with her family, especially during the holidays when she would cook up a storm and play hostess to many.

Marvine was preceded in death by her son, Mark Alonzo Barker; grandson, Darryl Anthony Commodore; parents, Mark Hanna Germany and Della Ervin; siblings, Ramona McNeal, Laura L. Murrell and Aletha Germany; aunts, Aleatha Kelley, Gladys Derr; uncles, Wesley Bingham and Banks Bingham; and niece, Sharon E. Broadnax.

Commodore; her bonus son, Stephen (Brianna) Garner; grandchildren; Craig Allen (Tina) Commodore and Tamika Raelyn Barker, great grandchildren, Darrylyn Commodore-Boyd, Miya Edley, Diamond Barker, Amani Rae Commodore and Nik’yah Barker; nieces, Martha Y.
