Matthew E. Brown

The graveside service and burial with military honors will be on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428.

Matthew E. Brown, Jr., age 91, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 in Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio after a brief illness. 

Matthew was born on September 20, 1929 and was the youngest child of Zetta (Smith) Brown and Matthew E. Brown, Sr. He was lovingly called “Junior Brown” by his family. 

Matthew graduated from Warren G. Harding High school in 1947, and shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Air Force. He retired after serving his country for over 20 years. 

After retiring from the military, Matthew relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where he met and married Shirley Wilson. They were blessed with twin daughters, Mistie and Kristie. Matthew owned and operated a corner grocery store for many years. He was generous, caring and loving and very often opened his home to provide help for those in need. In his youth, Matthew played the piano, sang and excelled as a boxer. 

Matthew was preceded in death by both of his parents, his loving wife Shirley, his brothers Charles, Albert, Robert, Sydney and Ollie Brown and his sisters Ethel Thomas, Mattie Butler Lee, Edna Porter and Carrie Mae James. 

Matthew is survived by his daughters Mistie E. and Kristie A. Brown, his grandson Bryan Matthew Brown, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with special friend William L. Saunders, Jr.
