Michael Lewis Obituary

Michael “Big Mike” Preston Lewis, Sr. was born April 21st, 1973, to Joe and Patricia Lewis in Columbus Ohio. He departed this life peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, June 22nd, 2019.

Mike was fascinated with automobiles from a very young age and this became apparent as his love for vans manifested. At the age of 7 years old, he convinced a family friend to teach him how to drive and was soon found out when a family member caught him driving. He was able to spot any car and literally tell you everything about that vehicle. He enjoyed dismantling and reassembling cars and took pride in making them look good. He also had a passion for building model cars. Nothing was more relaxing than going for long rides and when he could no longer drive, Mylesha enjoyed taking him.

Mike graduated from Marion Franklin High School. He also attended the career center for engineering because he had a love for architectural buildings like the Ohio Theater. He had a full career working with various agencies including AAA, The Ohio State, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, TRI, Heritage Day Health Centers, Columbus Public Schools, Dave's Transportation and the Ohio Theater.

While working as a bus driver for Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Mike met his bus assistant, Lisa Harris and she became the love of his life. They later married on October 31, 2000. Together they had two beautiful children, Mylesha and Michael, Jr.

Mike later retired from FCBDD due to health issues. Despite these health issues, he continued to enjoy life. Van Slam, Nationals and Spring Backs. Enjoying time with family, friends and Van Club members. He always said,” I'm a 2% Vanner for life!” and boy did he stand by that.

The one thing that Mike loved more than anything was FAMILY. He always tried to bring family together and would ease his way right into your family. He was a fun person and loved making others laugh, especially through his imitations of people. His infectious smile and laughter will never be forgotten.

Mike recently surrendered his life to God. He was baptized by Bishop Posey at Living Faith and was a member of Hosack Street Baptist Church.

Mike is preceded in death by grandparents Charles P. and Lillie B. Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Joe Lewis and Patricia Lewis; his loving, devoted wife of 18 years, Lisa; daughter, Mylesha Lewis; son, Michael Lewis, Jr.; sister, Tamika Lewis; aunt, Betty Bowers; special niece and caregiver, Shaniqua Mitchell; Godmothers, Fredrica Hale and Doricas Porter; and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
