With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Mittie Marie Betton who departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the blessed age of 86. Marie was a Godly woman and a devoted wife and mother who spent her life in service to others.
Born on July 19, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio, Marie was a woman of unwavering faith, boundless love, and quiet strength. A proud homemaker, she dedicated her life to caring for her family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, music, and the comforting presence of her steadfast love. She was a trusted friend and confidant. Many reached out seeking her counsel and those who did found spiritual guidance and support.
Marie lived her faith daily through service, kindness, and compassion. She was a faithful and committed member of First Church of God, where she served diligently as a trustee for many years. In honor of her years of dedication and faithful service, the trustee counting room was named for her when she concluded her service on the Trustee Board in 2014 - a lasting testament to the impact she made on her church family. In addition to her role as a trustee, she lovingly served on the Bereavement Ministry. Through this ministry of hospitality, she offered comfort not only through food, but through her presence, compassion, and heartfelt prayers during some of life’s most difficult moments. She was presented with a plaque of appreciation in 1993 for her consecrated and sacrificial service. Outside of the church, Marie regularly volunteered as an Ohio Poll Worker during elections - further evidence of her desire to serve.
Known for her loving spirit and nurturing heart, Marie touched countless lives. Many who knew her affectionately called her “Mom” or “Mother”, a reflection of the comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love she offered so freely. She never met a stranger, often striking up conversations with others at the grocery store that blossomed into lasting friendships.
Marie was a loving wife and mother. She and Ronald met at a bible study after being introduced by Ronald’s sister, Mary. They were married February 10, 1962 and had been married 63 years at the time of his death. As a devoted wife, she embodied unconditional love and was the unwavering anchor of the family. Through their union, five children were born.
Marie, the third of six children, was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Ernest Williams; her brothers, Rudolph Williams, Nathaniel “Moose” Maynus; and her sisters, Delores Maynus-Ross, Barbara Maynus-Peeples and Annette (Lawrence) Williams-Shelton.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Alisa Watson, Aleta Thomas, Alivia Camillle (Timothy) Williams, Ronald, Jr., and Alena (Torrance) Hampton; her brothers Ernest Williams and Herman Ed Maynus; sisters-in law, Bernice Betton, Rochelle Betton-Ford, Meichell Betton and brother in law, Lawrence Ross; her grandchildren, Iran (Ericka) and Isaac Watson, Donnyell Thomas, London Marie Nette Hampton, Ashlan Marie Williams, and Torrance L. Hampton, II; great-grandchildren, Malcolm Thomas, and Zara and Kenzo Watson; special nephew and nieces, Derek Trudo, Devonne (Jose) Just Trudo, and Arminta Williams; special daughter, Jackie Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.
Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that Marie’s legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
