Nellie R. Logan

Family will receive friends on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Clair United Methodist, 293 E. Barthman Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43207. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

Nellie Ruth Rutley Logan departed this life for her heavenly home on July 26, 2022 one day shy of her 61 st anniversary to the love of her life, Sidney Logan. Nellie valiantly fought  Parkinson’s disease for over ten years. As her illness gradually took away more of her life skills, her family and care givers stepped in to provide everything she needed. Nell was loved and  cared for by many gentle hands.  Nell joined the Powers Chapel CME in Guinea, Alabama at a young age. Her early education was completed in Hale County in Alabama. She was a graduate of Stillman College with a degree in Business Administration. She was pursuing an advanced degree at Eastern Michigan University when she married the gentle man who had loved her since she was 13, Sidney Logan. Nell was an Air Force wife for over 20 years and always participated in the wives’ and airmen’s activities. Together, Nell and Sid provided foster homes for 7 children. Their mentoring and fostering continued for 15 years and they always provided help when needed. Nell was an amazing leader at Clair United Methodist Church. She served as Christian Education Superintendent for over 20 years. She also was an Ushers, a worker in the Food Pantry, and a member of the Holloway Circle. She trained to become a Lay Servant and did an outstanding job on days she spoke or led the morning worship. Nell was a mentor to many, just by the way she lived. She never talked much, but she just did a lot to keep the church going. If there was anything going on at Clair—Nell was there!  

She is preceded in death by parents Woodie and Fannie Rutley; Brothers Charles Rutley; Sisters Mary and Willie. Her beloved survivors are her husband of 61 years, Sidney Logan, Sr., children; Patricia Lynn Logan, Sidney Logan, Jr. (Mindy), Michael (Heather) Logan; grandson Sidney Leon Logan III; great grandchildren Adalynn and Zakiah; brothers; Connel Rutley, Woodie Rutley, Willie (Lucille) Rutley, Lee Thomas (Faylor) Rutley; Sisters; Elizabeth (Willie) Hewins, Betty Trotter, Ethel Himes and special sister-in-law, Alfredia Hill; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
