SFC Norman Robinson (Retired)
Norman Robinson was born on April 16, 1956, in Cairo, Georgia to the late Mack and Rutha Mae Smiley. Norman graduated from Coral Gables Senior High School in 1974. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army on September 17,1976 and proudly served his country for 20 years. His travels took him to many duty stations around the world. Norman retired on October 1, 1996, ranked as Sergeant First Class/E7. He was joined in holy matrimony to Iris Lampley in 1996.
Norman was a member of World Harvest Church in Columbus, Ohio. While serving in the United States Army, he was decorated with many honors and medals to include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, Commanding General 56 Club, the Army Achievement Medal, the Licensed Gator Hunting Award, the One Star Recruiter Badge, the Two Star Recruiter Badge, and the Three Gold Star Recruiter Badge, the Recruiter Ring, and the Commanding General Gold Badge, in addition to many other accolades. Norman served his community in roles such as poll commissioner, JROTC instructor, and Barnett Community Center board member. He was an avid fan of all things Miami, including the Miami Heat basketball team, the Miami Dolphins football team, and the University of Miami Hurricanes football team.
Norman is survived by his loving wife Iris, children, and grandchildren: a son David Penton Sr.; (grandchildren) David Penton Jr., Shaneya Penton, Saniiyah Penton, a daughter and son, Kaneshia (Miguel) Dorsan and Norman Robinson II (and their mother, Mary Robinson-Lemon); a son, Donaric Robinson-Jenkins (grandchildren) Donisha Jenkins, Donasia Jenkins, Alonnah Jenkins, Don’keria Jenkins, Don’kevia Jenkins, Donaric Jenkins Jr., and (great-granddaughter) Makynzie Townsend. A special daughter Linda Michelle Ware (grandchildren’s) Elijah Ware, Mason Moore, and Christopher Pace Jr. His siblings Margaret Daniels, Julia Grant, Adella Keels, Jackie Wilson, Cornelius (Sharon) Smiley & Michael Smiley; sisters & brothers-in-law Marie Mims, Revieta Lampley, Amy Magee, Reggie Mashack and William Clark; a goddaughter Alexis Watson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by a son Lonaric Robinson-Jenkins; his parents Mack and Rutha Mae Smiley; his siblings Betty Smiley, Agnes Marie Smiley, Rosie Lee McGriff, Ida Smiley-Clark, Gloria Mashack; his father & mother-in-law David and Revie Lampley; sisters-in-law Jewel Vernon, Priscilla Lampley, Kimberly Peters, and his brother-in-law Leon Wilson & a host of other relatives.
