Pamela Diane (Scott) Norton was born December 30, 1951, to Harold M. Scott, Jr. and Lorabelle (Harris) Scott. She graduated from Eastmoor Senior High School in 1969. While there she played flute in the marching band. She grew up in the Shepard neighborhood and spent every summer on her grand-parents farm in Mt. Sterling, OH, where she and her cousins would help with the farming. She would say, “I thought Momsie was punishing us for making us clean that darn chicken coop out!” In her junior year of high school, she went to work for Nationwide Insurance as a Medical Underwriter where she remained until 1979 when she became disabled. While working there she met Steven Norton, they began dating and were married October 19, 1974.
SHE LOVED FAMILY and NEVER put a prefix on anything! There were no “steps, bonus’, or in-laws” in her vocabulary, you were simply her daughter, son, grandbaby, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or cousin. So, with that in mind we’re NOT going to start now! She was known by many names, Mommy, Abuela, Gramps, Sis and her most fond, PDN (Ask one of her kids what “she” said that stood for). Whatever you called her, she answered, but just know she was going to give you a nickname in return, and there was always a reason why she chose that for you!
She LOVED HARD and TRUE. At times she could be harsh, but she was just teaching you a lesson. She was very blunt and honest. We LOVED that about her! It may not be what we wanted to hear, but what we needed to hear! HER STRENGTH, COURAGE and ENDURANCE was UNMATCHED! A TRUE SURVIVOR OF ALL THINGS! She would put curse words together that had no business in the same context at all!!!
She had many past-times but at the very top were acting up and cracking jokes with her side-kick “Steven” (as only she would call him), spending HOURS on FaceTime with her partner in all things, BOO-BOO (Samre), talking for HOURS with her “brosin” (Brother/Cousin) Michael, her weekly calls with her cousin in Colorado, Carmen and last but not least, listening to her police scanner (ALL DAY AND NIGHT) eating her butterscotch’s and texting or calling her daughters asking if we knew what was going on like we were the police dispatchers!!! OH, and counting her numerous elephants she collected to make sure no one stole any!
She was an AVID fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes, she loved watching and going to ANY Wrestling event, watching Westerns, The Hallmark Channel, The FOOD Network and most of all traveling to the country in Southern Ohio, Terre Haute, IN and Dover, NJ, which she called her “happy place”. She loved Mexican food, having game nights, playing board games, Backgammon and Yahtzee with her grands. She loved her music (ALL genres, she even thought she could rap!!). ANY FAMILY EVENT, she was there! She LOVED her Scott’s, Harris’ and of course them D* Norton’s with all her heart. FAMILY MEANT EVERYTHING TO HER!!!
There to meet her when she went home, were her parents; Harold M. Jr. and Lorabelle (Harris) Scott, sister; Robin L. (Michael) Smith, granddaughter; Shawn Madison Drake, beloved aunts; Wilma Jean Harris, Betty Jefferson and Sarah Allen, mom; Mary L. Norton, nephew; Elijah M. Fair, niece; Tabitha Fair Poole, and her beloved great grand-dog; Prince Cinnamon Boots.
She leaves her legacy of ENDURANCE and STRENGTH to her beloved daughters; Hope D. (Roscoe) Patterson, Stephanie S. (Ermas) Norton-Thomas, sidekick and best friend; Steven (Lisa Hatten) Norton, grandchildren; Sky D. Patterson, Geoffrey K. (Tasia Lyles) Patterson, Shawn’ae L. (Damien Whaley) Drake, Samre’Lyn D.E. Thomas and Ermas S.D. Thomas, neph-sons; Justin K. (Marie) Lomax, Zachary M. (Destiny) Smith and Chaz N. Norton, daugh-niece; Nosha S. Norton, sisters; Tamara (Michael) Norton-Fair, Deborah Rogers, Sonja and SiYona Norton, brothers; Edward Jr., and Geoffrey Norton and Jimi (Jill) Lomax, aunts; Alice Jean Harris, Dolly Cotton and Betty Scott, mom; Louise Norton, children; Pamela (James Brim) Stroud, Ryan Stroud, Shawnia Austin, Laverna (Lorenzo) Styles, Tejina Bell, Cristal, Savannah and Raven Hatten, Mechelle Stafford, Kym Ziegler, Kizzma Alexander, Crystal and Shawn Drake, Nekia (Jonathan) Sellers and Lashawna (Earnest) Day, grandchildren; Sha’Nice, Mercedes, Aameena, Will, Jamar, Jaquan, Zion, Israel, Dawson, Davion, and Durrell, Special cousins; Michael, Duane, Carmen, Monta, Beverly, Lisa, Steven, Cabron, Jackie, Lorraine, Steve O, Becky, Stacey, Amy, Mark, Andy, Laverne, Denise, Shirley, Marla, Sheryl, Mikki and Eddie, A HOST of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
