Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Elks service begins at 9:00 a.m., Visitation at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 1080 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43205. Interment: Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

Patricia Ann Owens was born November 14, 1949. She was the baby girl of Emmit and Mary Owens. Pat grew up as a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. God gifted her with a beautiful singing voice. She sang in the youth choir and was a member of the Bernard Upshaw Singers, that was well known in Columbus during the 1960’s. Pat graduated from Linden McKinley High School, in June of 1967.

She became Mrs. Tommie L. Tucker in 1969. She moved her membership to Friendship Baptist, which was the Tucker families home church. Born to this union were Tara Lynn and Tyson Landon Tucker. Tom was promoted to a job in Dayton, Ohio for DCSC. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio. While living in Dayton, Tom passed away, so Pat returned to Columbus with 2 young children. Pat worked in various fields: as a salesclerk, home health aide, a Goodwill SL Specialist, hospital payroll administrator and State of Ohio Corrections Officer.

Her house soon became the entire family’s meeting place where we celebrated birthdays, holidays, and each other. Her second husband Lawrence Welch added another layer to Pat’s life. They traveled and entertained in their home. Pat was an outstanding cook and enjoyed being a hostess cooking and collecting model PIGS, were her hobbies. She often posted recipes on Facebook. Pat gave counsel to many people. She loved dress and was a real Fashionista.

Pat, Tara and Tyson were dedicated members of Martin Luther King, Jr. Temple 1216. Improved, Benevolent, Protective Order of Elks of the World (I.B.P.O.E. of the World).

Tyson passed in 2017, he left a daughter Tylea and stepson Nathan. After their mother, Jennifer, passed in 2021, Pat moved both children into her home and established a new family.

All acts of kindness will remain within our hearts. We are grateful for the ever-present help during Patricia’s transition. Thank you, Stella McClure, Michael Hampton, Diane Brown, Gloria Washington, and Sue Jackson. Special thanks to Yvonne and Brenda Coggins who were there for the hard jobs.

Preceded in death: Parents, Emmit and Mary Owens, Son Tyson Tucker, Daughter Tara Tucker, Son Talbert Townsend, Husband Tommy Tucker, Husband Lawrence Welch.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Sister Gwen Mendenhall, Grandchildren Brailyn, Taylore, Tylea and Nathan. A host of relatives in the Tucker and Reeves families. Lifelong friends: Jackie Johnson, Rochelle Martin and Patricia Russell-Smith.
