Robert E. Ellis, 71, passed this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in Columbus.

Mr. Ellis was born on July 8, 1952, to the late Dow B. Ellis Sr. and Beatrice (Bea) Ellis, in Louisville, KY.   Moving to Columbus in 1968, Mr. Ellis attended Bethany Baptist Church with his family.  Mr. Ellis attended South High School.  He participated in the band and received awards in mathematics.  After graduating in 1970, Mr. Ellis matriculated through The Ohio State University, receiving his B.S. in Mathematics.  Working as a teaching assistant, he earned a Master's in Mathematics, with a focus in computer science.  Mr. Ellis accepted employment at ITT and AT&T subsequently as a systems analyst in New Jersey.  He would go on to serve as a math teacher in New Jersey Public Schools.  Mr. Ellis retired and continued to live in New Jersey until 2020, when he decided to return to Columbus.  Robert enjoyed sports, as he and his brother, Dow, had the opportunity to attend The Rose Bowl as students at Ohio State.  He also loved a delicious home cooked meal.  He valued education and knowledge and enjoyed connecting with people to discuss their pursuits in their respective fields.  

He was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice Ellis and father Dow B. Ellis, Sr. and former brother-in-law, John D. Marshall

He is survived by: Brother- Dow B. Ellis, Jr; Sisters Anita J. E. Marshall, Leslie (Mark) R. Hill; Aunt Romie Pelham; Nieces Margeaux (Nicholas) D. Kittles, Vanessa J. Butler; Great nephews Cayson Kittles and Cayden Kittles; Great niece Caydence Kittles and a host of paternal and maternal cousins.
