Scott, Rosa L. (August 2, 1942-November 18, 2022)
Rosa “Rosie” Lee Scott was born on August 2, 1942, in Osceola, Arkansas, daughter of Martha and Moody Dubenion. Her family later moved to Columbus, Ohio where she was raised. She married the love of her life, Fred Scott, Jr., on February 15, 1958. She graduated from Columbus Evening High School in 1963. She received a certificate to be a keypunch operator from Metropolitan IBM School in 1967. In 1978, she attended Franklin University and studied Liberal Arts, and later in life pursued further university education in Business Administration.
Her first job was working as a Bench Hand and Assembler in the magnet card area of Western Electric. It was there that she worked her way up the company ladder to the positions of Paymaster, Accounting Clerk, Accounting Analyst, and eventually retired in 1982 as an Accountant. Family was paramount to Rosie, and she was a doting mother to her three children, Gerald Keith Scott, Sr., Michelle Scott-Reed, and Rhonda Scott.
Rosie showed genuine care and concern for everyone she met and was a warm presence to all who knew her. Rosie was very active in the Columbus community and volunteered her time with children with developmental disabilities, at Scottwood Elementary School, and Harvest Prep School. She was a member of the Top Notchers and Marriettes Social Club. She was a lifelong member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and had a strong Christian faith. At church, she was a member of the Smith Simmons Scholarship Committee, Ida Smith Food Pantry, and the Willing Workers.
Rosie is remembered as a lady of elegance and sophistication. She was a talented cook and baker. Her children and grandchildren fondly remember her delicious holiday meals, especially the desserts. In her spare time, she enjoyed swimming, crocheting, interior design, flower design, doing puzzles, playing tennis, volleyball, and sewing. She died peacefully on November 18, 2022, in Columbus at eighty years-old, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Scott, Jr. and her son, Gerald Scott, Sr.
She is survived by her two daughters, Michelle Scott-Reed and Rhonda Scott, and her sister, Lillie Fuller. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Gerald Scott, Jr., Shaniqua Scott, Jeremy (Sarah) Scott, and Brittany Reed, as well as six great-grandchildren.
