Born on March 27, 1944, in Corinth, Mississippi, Ruben Lee Cox was a devoted family man who lived a life full of compassion, vigor, love, and hard work. A beloved member of his community, Ruben resided in Notasulga, Alabama, and was deeply cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves a void that will be felt by many.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Izola Cox; his brothers, Carlton Paden Jr., Reverend Dolpah Paden; and his oldest son, Lavelle Cox. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynn Carol Cox, his siblings, Geneva and Curtis Moore (husband), Hellen Norvell, Dovie Sumerall, Thomas and Brenda Norvell (wife); a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Ruben is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Deborah Combs Cox (Lavelle's children: Courtland, Colby, and Colin Cox); his son Ishbah Cox, daughter-in-law Monica Cox (child: Solomon Cox); and his youngest son, Jasher Cox, daughter-in-law Ebony Cox (children: Cayden and Cyre Cox).
Ruben’s life was marked by his charm, quick wit, humor, and an infectious personality that would light up any room. The highlight of his life was his time touring across the United States with his brothers and their gospel group, The Dynamic Six, based in Trenton, New Jersey. Ruben worked tirelessly in the construction and industrial fields, contributing to major projects that helped shape cities, including key infrastructure improvements in Atlanta, Georgia. He also played a pivotal role in several construction projects at Auburn University and throughout the greater Auburn area.
Among his many passions, Ruben enjoyed joyriding with his wife, Lynn, attending Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Loachapoka, Alabama, where he served as a deacon, and supporting Auburn University athletics. He was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and in 2009, he proudly accepted a contractual chartered bus assignment for Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Florida.
Ruben Lee Cox will forever be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the love he shared with everyone around him. His life was a testament to the power of family, faith, and dedication. Because of his life, the legacy of the Cox family will endure for generations to come.
