Ruby Mae (Sims) Childs was born April 13, 1936, in Griffin, Georgia. She was the youngest of six born to Bennie and Ludie Sims. On July 27, 2021, Ruby peacefully transitioned at home (Columbus, Ohio), surrounded by her loved ones, to her new heavenly home to be with the Lord.
Ruby attended Fairmont High School in Griffin, Georgia. Shortly after high school she met Willie Childs and the two were married. From this union they had nine children: Ben, Yvonne, Vickie, Terry, Denise, Deborah, Phyllis, Tracy, and Pamela. At a young adult age, they relocated to Columbus, Ohio.
Ruby was employed at ABC Motel, Sheraton Hotel, Neilhouse, and Lazarus Department Stores in housekeeping services until she retired to spend more time with her family and help with childcare for her grandchildren.
Mother Childs was a member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a part of the Mother’s Board and Deaconess Ministry. She attended services regularly until her health started to decline. Ruby enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, watching her favorite TV shows (Price is Right, Eye-Witness News, Channel 10 Soaps and Reality TV), and most of all baking her delicious cookies and her famous melt in your mouth pound cakes.
Ruby is preceded in death by her mother and father Bennie and Ludie Sims, brothers Andrew Sims, Bennie Sims, and John Sims, sisters Margaret Sims and Pauline Sims; sister-in-law Cora Sims, nephew Robert Sims, grandson Carl Hester, and son-in-law Johnny L. Sinkfield Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Ben J. Childs, Terry (Thelma) Childs; daughters, Yvonne Willis, Vickie Childs-Schoby, Denise Sinkfield, Phyllis (Bill) Bright, Tracy Childs, and Pamela Childs; sister-in-law, Eddie Ruth Sims; fifteen grandkids, Antwan Childs, Jamaal Schoby, Johnny Sinkfield Jr., Tyrell Schoby, Anthony Dickerson Jr., Isaac R.
