Samuel Lee Clark, third child and second son born to Benjamin Arnett and Vinella Beatrice Goolsby Clark was born at their home in Columbus, Ohio, on February 07, 1937.

Living in a Christian home, Samuel and his siblings were introduced to Christian values and attending church services at an early age.  He walked with his sister and brothers to the nearby St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church where his Mother and Grandmother, Mattie Goolsby, attended.

During his childhood and youth, Samuel was active in the Sunday School, Boys Choir, Allen Christian Endeavor, and Interdenominational Youth Fellowship.  Some of these church-based organizations provided many opportunities for him to travel locally and beyond.

His first visit to Chicago was to attend the International Christian Endeavor Convention in 1961 during which time he, his sister Mary Alice and her husband, the Rev. Herman G.  Perkins (deceased), and brother Larry W. visited the Grant AME Church on S. Drexel  Avenue for Sunday worship.  Many years later,  Samuel became a member of Grant AME.

Growing up, he and his siblings attended the neighborhood schools: Mt. Vernon Avenue Elementary, Champion Jr. High, and East Sr. High—> Yea East! Yea Tigers!

After years of working, Samuel attended and was graduated from The Ohio State University in December 1962, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies.

During his college years, the name “Dave” was legally added: Samuel Dave Lee Clark.

Work/Employment: Samuel had a Columbus Dispatch paper route and also had jobs at St. Francis Hospital, Jeffrey Manufacturing Company, and Kroger Bakery.

After being graduated from The Ohio State University, Dave relocated to Chicago and worked for the Social Security Administration.  Later, working with other federal agencies, he moved to Detroit and Pontiac, Michigan, before returning to Chicago and worked with the Government Services Administration and retiring as Regional Director  of Cook County.

Early on Monday, June 17, Dave transitioned from earth to answer the Heavenly Roll Call.

Preceded in death by Grandparents -Johnson and Mattie Goolsby, Benjamin and Joanna Clark; Parents-Benjamin and Vinella Clark, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Left with cherished memories are Columbus siblings Joseph (Mildred) Clark, Mary Alice Perkins, and Larry W. Clark, nieces and nephews: Alan (Crystal) Clark, Sherri Kposowa, Lori D. Clark, and Jerry Adam (Janel) Perkins, and grand and great nieces and nephews. plus The Clark-Nivins-Barber Family Reunion members.

In Chicago and elsewhere Dave will be sadly missed by Cousin Roland Carter, Tim and Norma High, Tom and Sharon Neumann, friends and neighbors at his beloved LaSalle Street Church and his dream home, The Admiral at the Lake!
