Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at White's Funeral and Cremation Services, 867 S. James Road, Columbus, OH 43227. Interment: Evergreen Burial Park.

Shirley L. Banks (Better known as Bump) was born June 4, 1936, in Ingram Branch, West Virginia, Buckingham County, to parents John D. and Mary B. Banks. She passed away on December 16, 2023. Shirley was a graduate from Stratton High School in Bexley, West Virginia, where she enjoyed playing the saxophone in the marching band. She later went on to work at Overlook Hospital in Summit N.J., The Associates in Newark N.J., and DCSC in Columbus, OH. While in Columbus, she became affiliated with Ebenezer Baptist Church and Rehoboth Temple.   

Bump was a resident of McNaughten Pointe since 2017, where she was well cared for. The staff always expressed their love for her, stated she was always the life of the party, and had a great sense of humor. She loved doing jigsaw puzzles, and always wanted to wear a hat (cap). She loved music and loved to sing.

She was preceded in death by her parents John D. Banks, Mary B. Banks, siblings Willa Mae (Clarence) Peaks, John (Rose) Banks Jr., Wanda (T.J.)  J. Logan, Janice Banks, Naomi Banks (Lamont) Milner, Caroline (Robert) Clark, and nephew Jerry Peaks.

She leaves to treasure her memories, family care givers Andre and Doris Peaks, Joan Stepter, and a host of other nieces and nephews whose lives she was adamantly involved in as well as other relatives, and friends.

“Bump” as we affectionately called her, made many friends with many people who crossed her path.
