Shirley Ann Harris was born on September 29, 1935, in Elkhorn, West Virginia, to the late Sylvester and Estella Menefee Tucker. She was the second of ten children.

At a young age, Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized at Crozier Temple Baptist Church in Elkhorn, West Virginia, under the leadership of Reverend William Miller. She attended McDowell County schools and graduated from Elkhorn High School in the Class of 1953, where she served as class secretary, was a cheerleader, and participated in the Glee Club.

After high school, Shirley moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she began her career with the Detroit Gas Company. During her time in Detroit, she became an active member of Solomon’s Temple of the Apostolic Faith, under the leadership of Bishop William L. Bonner.

Later, Shirley relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where she joined the Cleveland Church of Christ. She sang in the choir and was deeply involved in her community through the Phyllis Wheatley Association, mentoring and empowering young women in their journey toward success.

A woman of style and generosity, Shirley was a personal shopper for her family and friends. She frequently traveled to the garment districts of California and New York, ensuring her loved ones were always dressed with elegance and grace.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Tucker Thomas and Jarnice Tucker Penn, and her brothers, James E. Tucker and Otis Garfield Tucker.

Shirley was called to eternal rest on September 7, 2025. Her life and legacy will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, James (Nancy) Harris of Holt, Michigan, and Timothy (Sue) Harris of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah (Zach), William, and CoCo; her brother, Gregory (Frances) Tucker of Charlotte, North Carolina; four sisters, Amelia Davis, Cecelia Armstead, and Carlotta Tucker, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Pamela (Ronald) Burton of Laguna Hills, California; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, including Hortense Wilburn and Barbara Penn.

Her faith, generosity, and loving spirit will live on in all who knew and loved her.
