Sue O. Chandler White was born on October 27, 1942 to Francis and Malcolm Evelyn Osborne in Decherd, Tennessee. She was the oldest of three children and was dearly loved by her brothers Walter (deceased) and Thomas. Sue entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2026.
When Sue’s father decided to move from Tennessee to Cleveland, OH, Sue was instantly drawn to school and academic achievement. She thrived in the Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Glenville High School in 1961. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from Central State University in 1965, her Master’s Degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1974, and she pursued advanced coursework toward a Ph.D. degree at The Ohio State University. Sue taught in the Cleveland Public Schools System for one year before working in the Columbus (OH) City School System for forty years as a successful and valued teacher and administrator.
Sue attended Lee Memorial A.M.E. Church in Cleveland, OH and later joined Bethel A.M.E. Church when she moved to Columbus. Sue was very active in every area of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She served as a member of the Steward Board, a member of the senior choir and a member of Stewardess Board #2. She was a class leader, a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, the Young People’s Department Supervisor, the Education Director, and a member of the Nimrod B. Allen Lay Organization. Sue was also a dedicated member of the A.M.E. Women’s Missionary Society and was active at the local and conference branch levels. She was a member and Past President of the Anna Battle Women’s Missionary Society at Bethel, a Life Member of the A.M.E. Connectional Women’s Missionary Society, and was Past Young People’s Director of the A.M.E. Ohio-South Ohio Conference. Sue was also honored at the 2023 A.M.E. Ohio-South Ohio Annual Conference Women’s Missionary Society meeting for her outstanding contributions to the Women’s Missionary Society.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Malcom Evelyn Osborne; brother Walter Osborne; stepdaughter, Carla White; great-grandson, Jeremiah Anderson; brothers-in-law Dr. Amos, Philip, and Albert White; sisters-in-law, Sandra White-Latimore and Cathalee White-Borders.
Sue will be lovingly remembered by her husband of thirty-three years Carl F. White, Sr.; loving and devoted son, Chaka Malcolm Chandler; brother, Thomas Osborne; aunts, Tennie Ann Austin, Sarah Adkins, and Catherine Kelly; step-children Carl White, Jr. (Mia) and Cassandra White-Graves; grandchildren, Bidea (Latisha), Brea (Tavion), Carl, III, Morgan, Langston, Qleopatra; great-grandchildren, Jailyn, Jasmine, Joshua, Bidea, Jr., Zion, TJ, Jayla, Journey, Jordyn, Sarah, and Qua’lil; great-great grandchildren, Jacyn, Jalisa, Jamarcus, Leilani, Imani, Dior, and Paris; nieces Amber and Erica; nephews, Jeffrey and Rodney; special brother-in-law, Dr. Wallace Chandler; sisters-in-law, Ellen White-Davis, Georgeann White-Hill, Henrietta White-Hoard; brothers in-law, Gerald, Wesley, Ralph and Daniel White, the Osborne, Clark, Curtis, and Chandler families, the Bethel A.M.E. Church Family, and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
