On Thursday, November 24, 2022, Tony Smith, loving husband and father of three children went to his rest at the age of 59 after a long battle of ESRD.

Tony was born on January 6, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio to Dorothy and David Smith, Sr. He attended and graduated from Beechcroft High School. Tony played football, basketball, and ping pong at the recreation center.

He worked at St. Ann’s Hospital in Food Service before he began working for the State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections in July 1990. He worked for Correction Medical Center until he made a decision to leave due to health issues in January 2015 with 24 years of service.

Tony gave his life to the Lord in 1988 at New Life Apostolic Church under the leadership of Pastor Gerald Smith. On April 28, 1990 he married Catherine Louise Collins, they raised three children Jonathan Isaiah, Jessica Lynn and Jasmine Marie.

Tony had an ear for music and played the acoustic, bass and electric guitar from his youth and joined the Magic Connection Band as a bass player. He would bust a rhyme from time to time on the mic. He listened to many genres of music, however, the old school 70’s music was a favorite of his. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball and boxing. Tony was a youth basketball coach at Feddersen Recreation Center. Tony served as the score keeper for the Beechcroft Lady Cougars Basketball Team for 4 consecutive years. He served as a Deacon and Men’s Ministry President at Grace Apostolic Church under the Leadership of Bishop James Gaiters. Tony was the music and muscle behind the family Puppet Ministry where they went to serve in nursing homes and even the Franklin Women’s Correctional Center. Tony was a master on grill and would often make family breakfast on Saturday morning. He made the best hot wings around town.

His children and family were his priority and he worked hard to provide the best life for his family. It’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his family and friends. Tony was a dedicated father, loving husband, brother, and son.
