Veno Antoinette Adkins, 75, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on June 6, 2025. She was born on July 10, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to William Adkins Jr. and Pearl Lemaster. Veno dedicated 30 years of her life working at The Ohio State University before retiring. She was a member of the Sigsbee Avenue Church of God.
In 1984, while working at Ohio State University, Veno met Odrenda Bridges-Frazier, who welcomed her into her home to meet her daughters. From that moment on, Veno became a beloved member of their family. Known for her vibrant spirit and infectious sense of humor, Veno developed a close, sisterly bond with Odrenda’s five daughters, so she adopted Veno as her own. Among them, she formed a particularly strong connection with Marcella “Marcy” Bridges. The two were often described as "two peas in a pod," as they were rarely seen apart. Their bond was both beautiful and unbreakable.
To the grandchildren, Veno was much more than just "Aunt Veno." She was a teacher, a listener, a playmate, and always ready with sandwiches and snacks for their adventures at Franklin Park, Barnett Recreation Center, or the backyard pool. She had her own funny rules—like waiting 30 minutes after eating before swimming—and a unique way of renaming them: Branden was affectionately called "Brenda," and Shauday became "Sharday."
Veno never met a stranger; she could strike up a conversation with anyone, whether they were listening or not. By the time she finished talking, it was likely that the person knew everyone in our family by name. Her stories and conversations seemed never-ending, and her laughter filled every room she entered. She found joy in life's simple pleasures: crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, coloring books, watching cooking shows, and The Young and the Restless, and The Price is Right.
Veno was fortunate to live a beautiful 75 years. She is preceded in death by her adoptive mother, Odrenda M. Frazier; biological parents, William Adkins Jr. and Pearl Lemaster; sister, Carmella Smith; and nephew, James Lee Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving sisters: Diane Adkins, and Debbie Adkins; Elaine “Lannie” Bridges , Marcella Bridges, Annetta “Michelle” Rogers, Lena O. Smith, nieces: Shaunta Robertson, Montoya Rogers, Shauday Draughon, Jamica Lee, and Porcha McKinley; nephews: Dwight Allen, Branden Cousar, Jerard Rogers Jr, and Jawaun Lee Sr.; as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, cherished friends, and a special sister Carmen Williams.
Veno’s warmth, humor, and unwavering love for her family will live on in our hearts forever. May her soul rest in eternal peace
