Victoria Eleanor Lake Talley departed this life peacefully at home on May 30 2026. She was born May 7, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Roscoe Lake and Bessie Gertrude Stowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lendyburgh Talley; her son, Rene Talley; and siblings Warren, Barbara, Mildred, Mary Sue, and Roscoe.
Affectionately known as Vicky, she grew up at 239 N. Garfield Ave. and was born at home on V‑E Day at 3 a.m., inspiring her name. She attended Garfield Elementary, Pilgrim Elementary, Champion Jr., and graduated from East High School. She was active in Girl Scouts, Patrol Guard, Science Club, yearbook staff, and The Collegian. She graduated from Central State University and completed postgraduate work at Ohio State University, forming lifelong friendships with Martha Cohen, Harvenia Washington, Beverly Bonds, and Ana Parks.
Vicky participated in the civil rights movement and signed her first teaching contract at Perrin Woods Elementary as one of the first Black educators to integrate the school. She later taught in Xenia at Tecumseh Elementary and spent over twenty‑five years at Buckeye Middle School in Columbus, experiencing integration, desegregation, and resegregation. She was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1998.
A member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Vicky gave her life to the Lord in 1969 and served faithfully at Hudson Street, Deshler Ave, and Kimberly Parkway as a Sunday School teacher, usher, youth leader, children’s choir director, deaconess, church secretary, missionary, outreach worker, and trustee.
Victoria will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and friend who always put others first. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Gibson (Prudence) Talley, Victor Talley, Vincent Tally, Theresa Diane (Calvin) Lee, Pamela Talley, Adrienne (Kenneth) Adams, and Ericka (Terrance) Settles; 17 grandchildren; 11 great‑grandchildren; 3 great‑great‑grandchildren; and her loving brother, James (Loretta) Lake. Special loved ones include niece Jackie Davis, neighbor Dovie Thornton, and lifelong friends Harvenia Washington, Martha Cohen, Faye Hawthorne, Tisha Ramsey, and Helen Morgan. She loved her pastor, First Lady Watson, and her church.
