Virginia Hawkins (Jenny) was born January 18, 1941 to the late Marie and Joseph Pounds in Sharon, Georgia. She went home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2020 at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, OH at the age of 79.
Virginia was a graduate of the License Practical Nursing Program at Newton Hall, at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. She was a longtime employee of The Ohio State University Medical Center. Post retirement, Virginia became a devoted employee of Columbus City Schools where she served at Whetstone High School.
A founding member of Cross Tabernacle Church, Virginia sewed the first seed that helped to establish the ministry. Virginia loved to travel “home” to Atlanta, Georgia where she visited with family and friends. She enjoyed Good Will “hopping” with her children and being the ultimate grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Virginia loved the Lord, and her favorite scripture was Psalms 100:5 “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Pounds, and husband, Chester Hawkins.
She is survived by her son, DeAngelo (Pam) Stephens; daughter, Sharon (Wone) Reeves; stepson, Jimmy (Lolita) Hawkins, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins.
