VIVIAN JAYNE BARTHEL MAPP was born April 17, 1966 in Columbus, Ohio. She attended Columbus City Schools and graduated from Beechcroft High School. She eventually went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma. She worked for the State of Ohio Franklin County Pre-Release Center as a nurse for many years.

Jayne grew up in church and was a member of the Greater Liberty Temple COGIC choir for many years. When Jayne would sing she would literally shake the foundation of the church. Her voice would reach heaven and those in attendance could feel the power of God! She was also lead singer in her family group the BSW Singers, including her cousins Bonnie White and Adrienne Banks. She partnered with her brother Willie Barthel Jr and the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church music ministry for several years before finally settling at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church. She loved to hear her niece and nephew (Christin and Willie III) as they went forth with the CPC music ministry.

Jayne was a quiet woman, low key and low maintenance. She was comfortable with the simple things in life. Her favorite color was purple and she loved floral prints and polka dots. Her most prized possession was her one and only child, Ron Mapp. She loved him and her grandchildren with all her heart. She wanted nothing but the best for her son and grandchildren and there was absolutely nothing she wouldn't do for her son.

Jayne’s biggest hero was her brother Willie Barthel Jr. He could absolutely do no wrong and could (in her mind) solve all her problems! Willie and Jayne were very close. Many times people would ask if they were married and or twins!

As her health began to decline Willie (who is a registered nurse) became one of her nurses. She was so happy that her brother could help take care of her. She told him she felt safe and comfortable. When Willie would give her night meds, she often stated to him “Bro tuck me in like you did last night, I slept all night!” Willie had no idea what he did, but he did it again!

Jayne had a host of caregivers but the main caregiver was her mother Jean Rash! Her mother stepped up to the plate and did what she had to do to take care of her daughter. Jayne’s older sister Cynthia “Penny” Toomer was consistent from beginning to the end. Jayne’s brother Willie did absolutely everything he could to help his sister. Blessed Home Health care came into Jayne’s life at the right time! The staff was great. A special thanks to Sara and Maria for taking good care of Jayne. Additionally her dear friend Shirlene Skinner and sister-in-law Christina Barthel came in fourth quarter and was able to assist Jayne to the finish line.

As a result of a stroke, brain encephalopathy and vascular dementia, for which there is no cure, Jayne was placed in the care of (in home) Hospice May 4, 2021.Jayne entered into eternal rest June 4, 2021. She leaves to mourn her son Ron K. Mapp Jr., and his children Jada, Ron Mapp III and Raegen. She is also survived by her mother Evangelist Jean Rash, siblings include Joseph (Denise) Steward, Phillip Chaney, Keith Steward, Cynthia Toomer and Willie (Christina) Barthel Jr., Jan Manning of New Jersey, Sheldon (Rosalyn) Larry of Tampa, Florida, Kelvin (Chiquita) Barthel of McDonough, Georgia, Mattie (Demetries) Faison of Dublin Georgia, Pamela (Michael) Mathis of Norfolk Virginia, William (Jerrica) Barthel of Warner Robins, Georgia, Marcia (Alicia) Barthel of Tampa, Florida.
